Brighton Marathon run

Tray running the marathon

Tray Young ran the Brighton Marathon for the MS Trust, this is her story.

Hi, my name is Tray and I really should start by explaining that I am not a runner... or should I say, I wasn't a runner! It was always my sister, Cat, who ran, not me. I was the one who made the signs and was there to cheer her on. I used to laugh if people asked me if I was a runner too.

In February 2009 Cat was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Despite this, in April 2010, just over a year since her diagnosis, Cat ran the London Marathon for another MS charity (MSRC), while she was having an MS relapse! I can't put into words how proud I was of my sister, she is my hero. I was so inspired that I decided I would do something to raise money and awareness for an MS charity, so I signed up for the Brighton Marathon and asked the MS Trust if I could run on their behalf. I did this before I had run a single step!

The training was very tough, what with an ankle injury and a case of uber-flu, plus, did I mention that I am not actually a runner?! But, I did it! On Sunday 10 April 2011 I successfully completed the Brighton Marathon! My Mum and Dad and my sister and her boyfriend, Mike (who also has MS) were all there to cheer me on wearing their MS Trust t-shirts and with a fantastic 'TRAY' sign. While they were cheering on the runners they were approached by a guy whose girlfriend has MS and so Cat and Mike told him about the wonderful work the MS Trust does to support people with MS. If running the Brighton Marathon has helped him and his girlfriend in any way, then that would be incredible.

It was an absolute privilege to run for the MS Trust and I was even lucky enough to meet some of the MS Trust London Marathon runners at a training run in London which was amazing.

Tray xx
