Raising awareness in the drag racing community
Lorna Barter, club official of motorcycle drag racing organisation 'SuperTwins', roped in club members to help during MS Awareness week 2008.
All togged up in our new T-shirts, they revved, roared and raced; collected money and handed out leaflets about MS to the hundreds of people at Shakespeare County Raceway.
"One thing I know drag racers can do is get attention!" said Lorna. She was right about that: the track committee was so impressed that it has adopted MS Trust as its charity of the year.
"The usual assumption is that I'm in a chair because of a bike accident but in fact it's multiple sclerosis that got me here. I've had it for nearly twenty years now, which I find incredible because when I was diagnosed I felt like it was all over. As it is, I'm having a great time organising SuperTwins and building websites and stuff."
Lorna has also recruited friends who race on four wheels and their campaign continues at full throttle up and down the country. You can see MS Trusts T-shirts at various racetracks including Santa Pod, throughout the racing season.
